An event for Tuakau Dahlia fanatics and anyone interested in learning more about the museum
Bring your favourite Dahlia flowers to add to the collection for a photoshoot to celebrate Dahlia season.

We'll start at 9am by gathering up all the authentic old milk bottles we can find to hold the Dahlias and see how many big a display we can make.

Thursday mornings are volunteering days at the museum, so you can wander around the premises and chat with the people working on a wide range of exhibits. It's a fascinating place to hang out, and a lovely group of people.

We've been working on the section behind the museum to turn invasive weeds into healthy soil, and there are now lots of spaces for new plants - donations of flowering shrubs welcome.

Each week I apply the biodynamic CPP preparation (cow pat pit), so if you'd like to try this then bring a bottle to take some home with you.

How to take part:

- The volunteering session starts at 9am, but you can leave your Dahlias in a bucket of water with a note if you can't make it in person.

- With each Dahlia we'll capture the name of who grew it, and on the back of your card please jot down the colour, whether you will have spare tubers to share once the season has finished, and how people can contact you to swap tubers.

- If you need to take your flowers home again, please stay till morning tea time at 10:30, otherwise we'll have fun using the flowers to set up some pretty flower displays through the museum and then gift them to friends in the community as bouquets.

Coming soon - digging up the museum Dahlia tubers

These flowers have been so very pretty that we all want to multiply the effect, and so we'll be digging the tubers up fairly soon to store over winter and plant out again in spring. Thanks to Kristy Kirkpatrick for the initial donation of a box of tubers - she essentially got the pollinator garden started.
