Back to School Bash: A Fundraiser for Class Action
Event description
The DC History Center warmly invites you to our Back to School Bash, introducing our upcoming exhibition, Class Action: The Fight for Equal Education in the Nation’s Capital.
Join us on September 26 for a fun-filled evening in the Torti Gallas + Partners office at the beautifully renovated Grimke School, a historic community landmark. Enjoy delicious bites, refreshing drinks, live jazz, and thought-provoking activities about the history of equal education in DC, inspired by the exhibition.
Tickets to this event support Class Action, the first major update to the DC History Center’s home at the Carnegie Library. Individual tickets will be available for $100 each, with the option to package two tickets at the discounted price of $175. Doors open at 6 pm. Food, drink, and activities are available for the duration of the evening. Brief remarks take place at 7 pm. Doors close at 9 pm.
Refunds available before September 1. If you can no longer attend the event, your ticket cost will become a tax-deductible donation to the DC History Center.
ABOUT THE EXHIBIT
Class Action will explore the history of education in DC, starting with the city’s first Black public high school, now known as Dunbar High School, to the height of Chocolate City. Through original objects, interactive displays, first person narratives, maps, and more, Class Action will ask you to consider: who has access to education and how? What is the role of activism in creating change? How can we resist racist systems and structures?
