Deaf Bridges
Event description
Deaf Bridges is a stand-up comedy show about sign language presented by an Auslan interpreter, Ben Richardson. The show tries to build a bridge between the Deaf and hearing worlds through comedy. Ben is a CODA (Child of a Deaf Adult) and has grown up as a hearing person with a Deaf mum. His life is very similar to the movie CODA except he was never an American teenage girl with dreams of singing. Ben is now a full time professional Auslan interpreter living in Tasmania.
Deaf Bridges tells stories about sign language interpreting, Deaf culture and community, Auslan and growing up with a Deaf mum. Ben also teaches his audiences sign language in preparation for the Deaf revolution that he is initiating. If you ever wanted to become fluent in Auslan then this show is guaranteed to keep that dream alive. Most of the Auslan you will learn in this show will be swear words so you can show your boss what you learnt. Deaf Bridges is done in both spoken English and visual Auslan and is accessible to both Deaf and non-Deaf people. The Deaf abides.
