Identifying and Removing Barriers for Electricity System Planning - This project aims to develop access to residential mixed fuel use data to enable more granular forecasting of demand during the transition to electrification.
University of New South Wales (Industry Partner: Australian PV Institute)
SunSPOT Electrification: Future-proofing Solar and Battery Decision-Making for Households and Businesses - Extending the SunSPOT tool to support decisions on battery and heat pump investments, helping households and businesses make informed energy investment choices.
Macquarie University (Industry Partners: Western Sydney University, Stryder)
Powering E-Shuttles with Optimised Routes and Smart Pavement - Developing charging pads placed in roads to provide temporary charging for electric shuttles, enhancing their operational efficiency.
University of Sydney (Industry Partner: Novalith Technologies)
Recycling of Lithium from Discarded Battery Materials - Scaling up an innovative process to recycle lithium from end-of-life Li-ion batteries, supporting a circular economy and sustainable battery management.
University of New South Wales (Industry Partner: Coolcity)
Open Platform for Real-time Renewable Energy Bidding and Trading - Creating a real-time software platform for managing energy distribution and trading, optimizing energy flows and ensuring a balanced energy supply.
Macquarie University (Industry Partner: Smartizer)
AI-Driven Energy Management Platform - Developing an AI-driven platform with a modular battery system that integrates with EV chargers and solar inverters, optimizing energy usage and supporting sustainable home energy practices.
University of Technology Sydney (Industry Partner: Transgrid)
Cost Effective Wireless Energy Harvesting from High Voltage Transmission Lines - Developing technology to wirelessly harvest energy from high voltage power lines, providing a reliable solution for powering telecommunications equipment in remote areas.

These projects will work over the next 12-18 months to address regulatory, policy, community transition, and economic barriers to decarbonisation.

The initiative is generously funded by the Environmental Trust and our Network Partners, including the University of Newcastle, University of New South Wales, University of Wollongong, University of Technology Sydney, and the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
