Deep Body Talk- a Contact Improvisation Dance Workshop
Event description
Having recently been asked by a student a series of questions around what we're attempting to do in CI, the metaphor of it being a conversation between two bodies once again seemed the best way to describe it.
No leader, no follower, no script; just meeting another person and realising you have a shared language, sharing about yourself, your ideas, your creative impulse and listening closely to each other.
So I teach this language, and am keen for as many to share it so I have more and more people to dance it with.
Inspired by some passionate locals, I am bringing this offering in the hope of a local CI community emerging from it.
We'll be covering as much of my course syllabus as possible in the two days available, starting from the basic elements and touching on all the skills, mindset and culture needed to continue the practice independently.
Participants will have access to my supporting course materials and can receive ongoing support from me afterwards.

About the Form
Contact Improv (CI) is a study in relationship to others, and the dance is a chance to hone that with skill, movement and touch.
With no set steps and no set leader, participants have the challenge and opportunity of practicing the widest possible range of dance moves, and to develop skills around presence, leading, following, fitness and flexibility.
It's an utterly joyous practice, and if you'd like to have a fun experience which sparks great changes in your life, come along.

This event is run under the Not-For-Profit organisation Contact Culture, which is dedicated to spreading ‘Dance and Democracy’. It is offered with the ethic of not letting an aspiring attendee’s lack of money lead to a lack of dance.
