Event description

The Rainforest Information Centre presents:

The Tasmanian Deep Ecology Gathering - A Spiral, within a Spiral - Deepening and Widening our Ecological Identity and Connection with all Kin

This gathering includes an opportunity for people new to Deep Ecology and for everyone drawn to experience a weekend workshop which we call the 'inner spiral'. For those who feel drawn to deepen in this work and be a part of a network growing deep ecology in Tasmania through organising and/or facilitating events, we are offering a day either side of the workshop, the 'outer spiral’, where we can deepen our relationships with one other and country. Within the outer spiral, we will have the chance to participate in the design and facilitation of deep ecology work, and to share our practices.

The inner spiral - the Deep Ecology Workshop - is offered from Friday 9th Feb 6pm to Sunday 11th Feb 4pm.
The outer spiral - the facilitator gathering - begins on Thursday 6pm and ends on Monday midday, including the deep ecology weekend workshop.

Logisitics:

The Deep Ecology workshop will be facilitated by a group of Tasmanian facilitators.

Tickets are on a sliding scale from $150-$600 (or from $190 if joining for the outer spiral - facilitator gathering)

********************************************************************************************

We live in times of unprecedented climate, environmental, political, social and personal crises,
at the heart of which lies our alienation from the Earth and Nature, from our communities and
families, and ultimately from our selves.

Deep Ecology reminds us that Life on Earth is not a pyramid with dominating humans on top,
but instead is a vibrant, exquisite and intricate web of existence and relationships. When we
destroy parts of this web, we are complicit in undermining the very foundations for complex life
systems on Earth, including our own.

You are invited to join us on a Deep Ecology experiential weekend which offers the chance to
go deeper into our feelings and responses about all this, to help find our personal compass,
callings and resources. Deep Ecology draws on the Work That Reconnects, a system developed
by Dr. Joanna Macy and colleagues over some 40 years, that enables us to understand how we
can heal our relationships with the Earth, with one another, and with ourselves. It invites us to
experience more deeply how it is to be alive in this world, and to draw upon deeper spiritual
resources and to uncover our ecological self.

This work offers a format of well-structured exercises help us explore our responses to being
alive within in these turbulent times, to uncover and express our feelings of pain for the world.
This in turn enables us to come back to life, feeling more alive and connected. Within the spiral
of the work, we also build compassion and emotional resilience, developing our clarity, strength
and determination.

Since the mid 1980’s, John Seed and colleagues have been developing Deep Ecology values and
enquiry practices in Australia, and taking part in Earth-protecting actions and advocacy. The
Council of All Beings is part of this work and will be offered this weekend. The experienced
facilitator team for this weekend are part of the international deep ecology network.

Deep Ecology Workshop Format (inner spiral): You are invited to arrive from 4pm to settle in. We meet together for an evening meal at 6pm on Friday 9th February and the workshop starts at 7pm and finishes at 4pm on Sunday.

We ask people to come and participate for the whole workshop, and to let us know if you have any emotional or health issues we should know about beforehand. Ask us any questions you may have.

We are also inviting people who feel called to facilitate or organise deep ecology events in Tasmania to gather together from Thursday 8th at 6pm until Monday 12th February at midday (the outer spiral).  If you feel called to be part of this, you are most welcome and can register for this option. If you want to speak to someone about this gathering, please call Shar on 0488 112 350 or Sue 0488 979 689.

The earth is quickening. The land is speaking. If we listen we can hear.
