Description

DEEP MIND is a Seoul-based contemporary jazz collective consisting of five musicians: Jaeshin Park (bass), Jongkuk “JK” Kim (drums), Youngwoo Lee (piano, synthesizers) and Joonho Song (guitar). Formed around the release of their debut album Deep Mind in 2021, the group has quickly gained attention for its fresh and distinctive sound within Korea’s jazz scene.

Led by Jaeshin Park, the band benefits from his wide-ranging experience performing with internationally recognized artists such as RM of BTS, So!yoon, and Paul Kim. He has also appeared as part of house bands for major music programs including The Voice, and King of Mask Singer, extending his reach to global audiences.

Rather than foregrounding individual virtuosity, DEEP MIND emphasizes collective expression. Their music is built on tight rhythmic foundations, layered with fluid textures and open-ended interaction. While rooted in jazz, their sound naturally expands into electronic music, alternative R&B, and experimental elements. With dual guitars and synthesizers, the ensemble creates rich tonal layers where density and space coexist, and arrangements often emerge organically through performance.

Since their debut, the band has been recognized for a sound that is technically refined yet unconstrained by genre conventions—playful, intentional, and driven as much by texture as by harmony and form. This reflects a shared philosophy that prioritizes ensemble balance and musical direction over individual display.

Their second album, Deepmind II, captures the group at a new level of cohesion. Each member’s identity remains distinct yet seamlessly integrated into a unified sonic vision. Expanding on the exploratory spirit of their debut, the album moves fluidly between structured compositions and intuitive, jam-driven passages. Ideas are often introduced by one member and reshaped collectively in real time.

The result is music that feels alive—texturally rich, emotionally resonant, and at times deeply immersive. At its core, DEEP MIND is less a fixed project than a living musical organism, continuously evolving through trust, curiosity, and a shared commitment to sound.
