Boiled Tea Ceremony with Sydney Tea Hut
Session at 11.30am About 70 minutes This tea ceremony is hosted on the floor. Please wear comfortable clothes and get in touch if sitting on the floor is not in alignment with your body and we can arrange for extra supports or a chair to accommodate you. Boiling tea is one of the oldest brewing methods in the world, dating back to the legend of Shennong and the very first bowl of tea to be supped by a human. Unlike steeped tea, where leaves are briefly infused, boiled tea is continuously immersed in water, allowing the layers of the tea liquor to deepen and alchemise as the ceremony unfolds. Bowl tea ceremony is held in noble silence and is a slow and gentle catalyst for turning inward, for meeting yourself exactly where you are. The goal is goallessness. Nowhere to go, nothing to do, nothing to achieve. Just drink tea. Drink the moment. The slowness is an invitation into stillness, presence and communion with the self. Join us by the cauldron for a harmonious session of simplicity and tea medicine. NB: bowl tea ceremony is hosted on the floor. Please wear comfortable clothes and get in touch if sitting on the floor is not in alignment with your body and we can arrange for extra supports or a chair to accommodate you. Your host is Lulu. Lulu is a student of Cha Dao, the Way of Tea, as taught through Global Tea Hut, steeped in the ancient Chinese tradition of meeting tea as medicine and as a path of self-cultivation. As steward of Sydney Tea Hut, the sole Global Tea Hut space in Australia, she primarily offers bowl tea ceremony as a gateway to meditation and communion with the self, nature and others, and educational workshops holding space for receptivity, connection, contemplation and the tender art of turning inward.

Your host is Uncle Rob. He has been studying and practising Japanese tea ceremony using the Urasenke method for more than 20 years and has recently started teaching.

Gongfu Cha with Tea Angle
Session 1 at 9am Session 2 at 11am About 70 minutes This tea ceremony is hosted seated at a table. Gongfu cha is a Chinese tea practice where the journey of the tea takes precedence over the destination. Characterised by a brewing method that maximises the flavour changes in the tea over several steeps, gongfu cha rewards mindful drinking and patience – both in the tea and the drinker. Brews of 3-4 different high-grade teas will be served that give a glimpse into the breadth and depth of pure leaf Chinese teas, with some teas being from our private collection and not for general sale. At this casual, chilled out tea session, we'll also talk through some of the history and share stories that surround this magical leaf. Your host is Matt. Matt is the co-founder of Tea Angle, a Sydney-based tea business whose purpose is to make high quality Chinese tea accessible and available to everyone, everywhere. Tea Angle works directly with farmers and producers in rural China to bring high quality, pure teas to tea lovers the world over. We learn about and sample as many teas as we possibly can to ensure that the teas you get are interesting, unique and a true reflection of their place of origin.

Tea Meditation with The Mindful Cup
Session 1 at 12.30pm Session 2 at 3pm About 70 minutes This tea meditation is hosted on the floor. Please wear comfortable clothes and get in touch if sitting on the floor is not in alignment with your body and we can arrange for extra supports or a chair to accommodate you. Tea as a mindful ritual for meditative self-care. Begin with a guided meditation to ground the five senses. Sound as the cocoon to invite a mind-body connection: Himalayan singing bowls, personally chosen in Kathmandu from a selection shared by revered teachers, the Maharjan family. Once settled with a Beginner’s Mind, rest in Noble Silence as you watch, touch, listen and taste the evolution of the leaf. Careful short infusions allow us to reflect on the sensory journey of flavours and scents, deepening the exploration of tea. As the meditation closes, you may gently share in Community or stay in solitary quietude. The choice is yours. Nature will choose the tea. Aged tea from my personal collection shall be matched with the time of the day and the weather. You may enjoy the taste of an aged liu bao stored for decades in Penang, a white shou mei tea, a Mongolian fu tea, an herbal blend from Tashkent or a shou pu’er from Kun Ming. Your host is Po-Tien. She is an accidental corporate, a clumsy Buddhist, a constant student and an accredited meditation teacher with the Australian Centre for Meditation and Mindfulness. She was born in Malaysia; Australia has been her home since 1987. She honours her heritage through humble tea meditations using the method of gongfu cha brewing: allowing tea to connect to the five senses, to Nature, to Self and Community. She is a student of global tea culture.
