Deep Listening to Nature with Andrew Skeogh
Event description
Join us at Riverdale Farm for “Deep Listening to Nature”, a morning workshop with Andrew Skeoch that will open your ears and curiosity to the living sounds of your local landscape.
Through listening attunement exercises, soundscape interpretation and discussion, you’ll explore the songs, calls and communicative behaviours of birds, frogs, aquatic insects and soil organisms, learning to notice patterns and interconnections that reveal how natural systems function.
This session is for anyone curious about tuning into the land, understanding local wildlife, and deepening their connection to place — no prior experience required.
In addition to the morning program of exercises, discussion and trying out microphones/listening in different environments, we’ll also share time together on the farm, with space for informal conversation, tea, and reflection. You’ll leave not only with fresh ways of listening to the natural world, but also with practical tools and inspiration to continue your own journey of deep listening at home and in your local landscapes.
About Andrew
Andrew Skeoch is a wildlife sound recordist, author, presenter and workshop facilitator. His work encourages a deep listening to nature—not only to attune our ears to the natural environment, but also to learn from the ways creatures communicate and achieve sustainability. These themes are explored in his new book Deep Listening to Nature.
Over three decades of field recording around the globe have shaped his writing and provided the 270 recordings that form the book’s soundtrack. This lifelong practice has also resulted in a catalogue of more than 100 long-form natural soundscape recordings, published through his label, Listening Earth.
