Event description

Effective ERGs: Advocating for racial diversity in shifting times

Join us for an event hosted by Careers in Colour (CiC) and MindTribes focused on exploring what makes Employee Resource / Action Groups (ERGs/EAGs) effective, and ways to defy the emerging narrative about initiatives to progress racial diversity in the workplace.

In shifting times about the need for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) in workplaces, this event will explore misconceptions about DEI, ways to shape effective narratives to advocate for inclusion and equipping DEI advocates and those involved in ERGs/EAGs with ways to remain resilient.

This panel will feature senior leaders in Australia, ERG leaders, and advocates for racial and cultural inclusion, who will speak to their successes and challenges.

Walk away with practical steps to defying the changing DEI narrative and hear real life examples from the panel, plus the opportunity to connect and network with other attendees.

This event will be in-person only held on Tuesday 25 February, 6.15-7:30PM (with arrival from 5.30PM for a 6.15PM start) at the Canva space in Sydney on 110 Kippax Street, Surry Hills. Nibbles and drinks will be provided.

Everyone is welcome

The event is for everyone, especially for those involved in employee resource groups (ERGs) for cultural diversity.

Moderated by Careers in Colour co-founder, Victor Ho (he/him), we will be joined by some fantastic panellists and speakers on the night, and we will be releasing more information about them on our socials.

  • Div Pillay (She/Her) - CEO and Co-Founder at MindTribes, Governor of Victoria at the American Chamber of Commerce, Board Director at VicHealth; and Chair of the Workforce Committee.
  • Dr Belle Lim (She/Her) - Organisational DEI Consultant at MindTribes, Founder & Executive Director at Future Forte Australia.
  • Hayley Yeates (She/Her) - Cultural Diversity Leadership EAG Chair, Westpac and Engagement & Capability Lead.
  • Matthew D'Cruz (He/Him) - Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) regional Co-Lead for Canva's People of Colour Collective and Strategy and Performance at Canva.

As part of this event, we’ll be launching a special report on ‘What makes ERGs effective?’, offering useful insights based on a decade of MindTribes’ practitioner expertise, CiC’s practical experience, stakeholder interviews and desktop research conducted by the University of Melbourne.

Here's what you can expect:

  • 5.30-6.15PM - Registration and networking
  • 6.15-6.30PM - Welcome and opening remarks
  • 6.30-7.25PM - Panel discussion, followed by Q&A

About Careers in Colour

Careers in Colour supports people of colour in their careers by running community initiatives that provide pathways to effect positive change in their own careers, workplaces, and broader society.

Our philosophy is rooted in transformative equity and particularly focuses on underrepresented and marginalised communities with intersecting identities. We aim to do this by providing opportunities for leadership, community and connectivity, while mobilising advocates around issues that affect people of colour in the workplace and push for structural change.

We acknowledge that we live and work on the unceded lands of the Gadigal, Dharug, Wurundjeri, and Ngunnawal and Ngambri people. We acknowledge Traditional Owners across the continent and their continuing connection to the land, sea and community.

About MindTribes

MindTribes is an award-winning diversity, equity, and inclusion consultancy, advisory, practitioner, and research business. We are an expert behavioural change consultancy with extensive transformational experience in intersectional inclusion and structural equity.

At the core of our work is partnering with clients to embed long-term change, and realise true respect, psychological, and cultural safety for People of Colour and Anglo-Celtic individuals in the workplace.

MindTribes works with large private, public and not for profit entities to address inequity and exclusion, working from the bottom up [staff-led networks] and top down [boards, executive teams, leaders, managers, people and culture leads].
