Degrowth: Learning to Live Within Planetary Limits
Event description
Economic growth has improved living standards, but our current path is driving us towards ecological catastrophe. As we approach (or surpass) planetary limits and tipping points, how do we ensure a prosperous society without infinite growth?
To address this, degrowth supporters advocate for radically scaling back our global consumption of resources, and maintaining them at sustainable levels. This view challenges the assumption that growth is good, and it is gaining traction. But is it workable?
Join us from 5.30pm on Thursday 16th November at the Sustainability Trust in Te Whanganui-a-Tara for a kōrero about degrowth: what is it, why does it matter, and how can it help us achieve sustainability at a local, national, and systemic level? Also hear about the Living Pā project and relationships to Māori values.
Our event will be MC'd by the fantastic Sharn Maree, with our list of amazing speakers including:
- Mike Joy
- Gareth Hughes
- Sahra Kress
- Rhonda Thomson
- Hannah Blumhardt
- Peri Zee
