Delve Deeper into UK Bumblebee Identification - Intermediate Workshop

Already familiar with identifying common bumblebee species, and want to deepen your identification skills? This intermediate bumblebee workshop is for you.

Delve deeper into identifying bumblebees, gaining confidence with common bumblebees, cuckoo bumblebees, and learning how to differentiate the common species from the very similar but rarer species, and more with this hands-on workshop. We'll also learn how to tell the sex and caste of bumblebees, solitary bees from the social bees, bumblebee mimics from true bumblebees and bees from wasps.

The workshop will be mainly practical, using museum specimens, microscopes and magnifying glasses.

If the weather is good, we may visit Brandon Hill to observe bumblebees in the wildflower meadow. In poor weather, we’ll explore the museum’s behind-the-scenes insect collection. Travel information

• Bristol Museum & Art Gallery is located at the top of Park Street in Bristol, next to the Wills Building of the University of Bristol, BS8 1RL.

• There are many bus services that run outside the Museum - the nearest bus stop is within 150m of the venue.

• Multi-storey car parks at the top of Jacobs Wells Road (West End Car Park) and on Park Row (Trenchard Street) and there is on-street parking.
