The Dementia Awareness for Caregivers Course is an evidence-based training program designed to educate caregivers and families about dementia and provide them with skills for compassionate care. The course provides modules on the nature of dementia, promoting positive engagement, and effective caregiving strategies. The program aims to increase caregivers' knowledge and improve the quality of care for people with dementia by fostering understanding and reducing stigma.

The course is delivered by Research Psychologists Mel Melville and Suman Kurana from University College London. The course was developed by Professor Aimee Spector who will be attending the course and available to answer questions.

Dr Aimee Spector is a Professor of Clinical Psychology of Ageing at University College London (UCL). Professor Spector is visiting Canberra as part of a Distinguished Visitor Scholarship at the University of Canberra.

The course is suitable for caregivers of people with dementia and will be held at the University of Canberra Hospital. Accessible parking is available adjacent to the venue, and a structured car park is located underneath the hospital and across the road. All course materials are provided, but participants should bring a pen and notebook. Morning tea and a light lunch will be provided. A certificate of attendance will be issued after the event.

The course is limited to 30 people.
