Join filmmakers Willem Timmers and Ilja Kok (Framing the Other) in conversation with Professor Pegi Vail (Anthropology, NYU), who has taught the film in her Anthropology of Tourism course.

Shot fifteen years ago, the film continues to elicit strong responses from viewers. This conversation will explore the sources of these reactions and how they align with (or diverge from) the filmmakers’ original intentions. In light of the rapid and profound transformations of the tourism industry over the past decade, how did the film resonate in its original moment, and how does it continue to resonate today?
