A Hands-On STEM Workshop Series for Young Creators Aged 9–14

Turn imagination into something you can hold!

In this fun, hands-on three-part workshop series, students will learn how to design their own 3D creation using Tinkercad — a beginner-friendly digital design tool — and see how their idea can be turned into a real 3D-printed object.

Led by Hardik Trivedi from OpenTech Designs, this workshop is perfect for curious young minds who enjoy creating, experimenting, solving problems, or exploring how technology works.

Across three sessions, students will learn the basics of 3D modelling, develop and refine their own design, and receive a 3D-printed version of their creation to take home.

No previous 3D design experience is needed — just bring your imagination!

What Students Will Experience

Workshop Journey

Session 1: Discover & Design

Students will be introduced to the world of 3D printing and learn the basics of creating designs in Tinkercad. They will begin building their own model with support from the instructor.

Session 2: Refine & Prepare

Students will continue working on their creation, making improvements and learning how designs are prepared for 3D printing.

Session 3: From Design to Creation

Students will learn more about the 3D printing process and see how digital ideas are transformed into physical objects. Each student will receive a 3D-printed version of their own design.

What to Bring

Please bring:

A laptop where possible, or an iPad with Tinkercad accessible/installed
A ruler 📏, recommended for design activities

Important Setup Information

The workshop will use Tinkercad, a free, beginner-friendly 3D design tool that can be accessed online.

Attendees are encouraged to create a Tinkercad account before the first workshop so they can spend more time designing during the session:

Support with setup can be provided on the day if required; however, this may reduce the time available for design activities.
