    Event description

The DESIGN Canberra Festival, presented by Craft ACT: Craft + Design Centre contributes to the soul of Canberra and our identity as a creative capital and a city of design. Design is in Canberra’s DNA with First Nation people’s ongoing cultural and spiritual connections to this city and region - in which making, and design are embedded within cultural practice. Canberra has always been a dynamic design laboratory and place of creative enterprise embodied in the Griffins’ visionary design for the city, Canberra's iconic modernist architecture; and it’s thriving contemporary sustainable design, craft and art industries.

This year’s festival responds to the theme of Transformation and invites us to speculate on how we might transform our city, our community and our world through design and creative practice. The 2022 program promises to be bigger than ever before with over 200 events including symposiums, talks, tours, exhibitions, public arts installations, and workshops for audiences of all ages.

The DESIGN Canberra Festival is delivered through extraordinary collaboration between artists, designers, craftspeople, industry, sponsors, educational institutions, organisations and supporters; whose creativity and commitment contributes to community wellbeing and identity; and to embedding contemporary craft, making and design at the centre of everyday life in Australia’s capital, a global city of design.
