Design Declares Workshop: Ideas to Action

Join us for an interactive workshop, Ideas to Action, using our Design Declares action cards.

We will take you through problem-solving scenarios. Using our Design Declares 8 Acts of Emergency, we will discuss and delve into the problems that sustainable designers face daily. The workshop is designed to foster community and build on shared experiences, giving attendees the skills and confidence to tackle the climate crisis through their everyday design work.

This workshop is for all designers from all disciplines. Together we will educate, advocate and inspire. What is needed now is meaningful action steps that can begin to connect what we know to what we do.

This is the most important brief of our lives. Join us as we begin to design a climate-positive future.

Facilitators for this event:

Dr Michelle Douglas: Design Declares Board Member and Associate Dean of Industrial Design at RMIT, a globally recognised leader in design (Industrial/Interaction Design) with expertise leading diverse portfolios of courses at undergrad, postgrad and HDR level education. With 25 years of experience in renowned QS Ranked Top 10 Universities for Art & Design across the world, including the UK, USA and Australia, she has led multiple departments in developing cutting-edge programs across design, including product/industrial design, interaction, digital design and innovation/futures strategy.

Nicola Rennie: Founder and Director of the Australian Chapter of Design Declares, and PhD candidate studying at RMIT School of Design, her research topic is: Regenerative Digital Design: Understanding the resistance to climate action and finding a pathway to transition to regeneration practice. With 23 years of experience in brand strategy, marketing, and digital leadership, working with amazing international brands in Australia, the UK, Italy and the USA and founding a handful of startups.

Andrew Simpson: Director and Principal Designer at Vert Design. A Sydney-based Industrial Design studio leading the field in deep exploration of materials and processes, resulting in sustainable improvement for manufactured products. CEO of Design Declares AU.

Ben Rennie: Co-founder and managing partner at Rennie Lab, designing creative solutions, products, and brands that impact the community, climate, and humanity. Chairperson of Design Declares AU. Author of Lessons in Creativity.
