Event description

Transform small spaces into thriving edible landscapes! Join passionate Permaculture Designers Lizzy Smith and Sam Hawker for an immersive hands-on workshop at the Canberra City Farm. This unique Permaculture Design Workshop invites you to explore the possibilities of turning courtyards, balconies and community spaces into productive, sustainable food gardens. Through a collaborative design sprint, you’ll work with other participants to develop creative solutions for urban food production, applying permaculture ethics and principles along the way. Under the expert guidance of Lizzie and Sam you will learn how to work from a design brief for an edible courtyard developed by Farm members. Collaborative, fun, no design experience necessary.

What You’ll Gain

  • Hands on design practice: learn the design process while working on a real project.
  • Permaculture foundations: understand ethics and principles of permaculture with a focus on small urban spaces
  • Collaborative creativity: work as a team to rapidly generate and refine designs for the courtyard garden at the Farm
  • Next steps: opportunity to continue with the project and contribute to the Farm’s community and educational spaces
