Panellists

Jessica Allen, Climasure

Jessica is a building designer who took a very early interest in function over form, rejecting design for performance. Her career started with code compliance - NatHERS ratings and the other complexities of the energy efficiency section the NCC, and grew to include air tightness consulting and blower door testing for both residential and commercial buildings and most recently has expanded into the world of mould and building biology.

Jessica is a Passivhaus Designer and a WUFI professional. Her passion for building performance has snowballed over the years and she is now entrenched in building science and the correct implementation of these principles on site because she believes THIS is where the real difference can be made, both to building occupants and to our planet. She is passionate about educating the industry and wants to encourage information sharing as much as possible.

Dr Fiona Gray, Bioliving by Design

Dr. Fiona Gray is a registered architect and Principal of Bioliving by Design, a consultancy specialising in biophilic design and healthy building practices. She serves on the Living Future Institute of Australia’s Biophilic Design Advisory Panel and the Australian Institute of Architects' Gender Equity Diversity and Impact Committee. Her diverse career has included roles as City Design Lead in local government, CEO of the national sustainable living organisation Renew, and Adjunct Associate Professor at Deakin University. Fiona’s contributions to the field have been widely recognised, with her research published in international journals and her achievements honoured with prestigious awards, including the Neil Archbold Medal and the David Saunders Prize.

Luke Rhodes, Zen Architects

Inspired by a childhood on a rural property in North East Victoria, living in harmony with the environment, the values of sustainable living and family are a continual presence in Luke's work.

Later moving through numerous rural towns across Victoria and New South Wales and experiencing poor quality housing at every turn he was left puzzled at the reliance on air conditioning, the unhealthy state of our built environment and the lack of connection to the outside world.

With little understanding of what architecture was, he undertook studies at the University of Canberra and completed a Masters of Architecture. Following this, Luke was actively involved in the design and construction of large scale, high end commercial and multi-residential developments in the Canberra region.

The desire to work on more refined projects that focused on the end user drew Luke to Melbourne where he joined Zen Architects. His interest in the myriad of possibilities of light and volume, and its interaction with local, natural and tactile materials and environments, drive his passion for designing settings in which families can thrive.
