Designing for the future

A presentation by graduates of the RMIT Master of Design Futures (M.DF) showcases capstone research projects and includes a discussion on emerging areas of design and practice.

Social, cultural, political, and professional structures are in need of new ways of thinking and approaching the issues that confront them. We require design leaders, design strategists, and design thinkers who can dissect and dismantle these structures. The Master of Design Futures (M.DF) is an accelerated, graduate qualification for working professionals who want to transition into new design practices or advance their careers in strategic leadership roles.

The Designing for the future presentation is of Capstone Research Projects by M.DF Graduates

M.DF culminates in a capstone research project where students consolidate their research and learning over the 2-year program and their enhanced design practice. The Designing for the Future presentation is an opportunity to engage with recent graduates and emerging design leaders about their capstone projects and what this means for the future of design. Each presenter will give a short presentation on their project before a facilitated Q&A.

Presenters and their Capstone Projects

Anne Widjaja, in her project Resilience through unity and care, focuses on designing for human and non-human equity in food systems to ensure a resilient future.

Alicia Basa's project, Who designs you? is an immersive exploration of self-leadership in sustainable design practices.

Fiona McEwan, in her project Metaphors we change by, explores how nurturing pollinators can seed the foundations for sustainability transformation in the building industry.

Grace Stevenson's project, Holding Back, examines how we can allow for greater self-exploration through considered learning spaces with electronic music and beyond.

The Designing for the future presentation is open to the public, however, a general understanding of human-centred design is recommended to make the most of the experience.
