OVERVIEW

The CHSP sector serves a diverse range of older Australians, many of whom come from different cultural backgrounds. Similarly, an increasing number of the care workforce is people of CALD background. Effective service delivery in this sector requires not only technical knowledge and skills but also cultural intelligence. Cultural intelligence is an individual's ability to understand their own and other cultures and to interact and work fairly and effectively in all situations characterized by cultural diversity. In this workshop, we will provide individuals working in the CHSP sector with the foundation of what they need to develop their cultural intelligence and work effectively in multicultural environments.

OBJECTIVES

Understand the importance of cultural intelligence in the CHSP sector
Develop self-awareness of your own cultural values, biases, and assumptions
Learn how to adapt your communication style to effectively engage with people from different cultures
Learn how to navigate cross-cultural misunderstandings and conflicts
Develop strategies for building trust and rapport with people from different cultures

This workshop is designed for professionals at all levels who work in the CHSP sector and interact with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, whether clients or staff. This includes board members, managers, coordinators, care workers and other staff members.
