Developing International Signing with Gavin Lilley (Part 2)
Description
Developing International Sign – Part 2
Session description
This follow-on workshop is for participants who have completed an introductory International Sign course or already have some experience using International Sign (IS). It offers further practice in communicating across linguistic and cultural differences in everyday, community and professional situations.
Led by Gavin Lilley, the session examines how features of International Sign may vary according to context and audience. We will consider communication in situations including health, education, community work and political discussion, alongside the choices that help people from different signing backgrounds understand one another.
Through demonstrations, group activities and discussion, participants will practise both producing and understanding IS. There will be opportunities to try different approaches, ask questions, receive feedback and identify ways to continue developing skills.
Who is this session for?
Qualified and trainee interpreters and translators with some previous knowledge or experience of International Sign.
