The Walking Club of Victoria invites you to join them on the Devilbend Natural Features Reserve Loop walk. This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.

Join the Walking Club of Victoria on an exploration of the Devilbend Natural Features Reserve, which includes the largest inland body of water on the Mornington Peninsula. The circuit walk meanders through lowland forest and grassy woodland. From the shoreline we’ll enjoy superb views over both Devilbend and Bittern Reservoirs. The flocks of water birds are a spectacular sight.

The reserve is of high conservation significance and is recognised by BirdLife International as being globally important. Keep an eye out for the majestic White-bellied Sea Eagle as well as for turtle nesting sites and deer.

DISTANCE: Approximately 14km circuit walk.

WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? For anyone with a reasonable level of fitness who would like to try out bushwalking with a friendly club.

CHILDREN AND PETS: This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home. Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.

AWT GRADE 2 (Easy), on formed tracks. There is a short, gentle hill at the end of the walk, but otherwise it’s fairly flat. Note: whilst this is a Grade 2 walk, it is approximately 14kms. AWT Grade information.

PACE: Steady with a 15 min stop for morning tea and a 30 min stop for lunch. (Walkers need to bring their own food and drink – no drinking water is available at the reserve).

TOTAL ASCENT: Approx 50 m.

WALK DESCRIPTION:

We will circumnavigate the reserve in an anti-clockwise direction. A mainly flat walk, the first part is fairly open following a waterway. This leads us around Devilbend Reservoir to Bittern Reservoir. After lunch the path provides more shade as well as access points to the shoreline of Devilbend Reservoir.

The plan after the walk is for us to drive to a nearby Mount Martha café for coffee and cake.

MEETING POINT: Daangean Point Picnic Area car park, Devilbend Natural Features Reserve, off Graydens Road, Tuerong (Melway Map 152 J3). Park in the car park near to the public toilet. Please arrive by 09:00 am for a 09:15 am start.

ABOUT OUR CLUB: The Walking Club of Victoria is a small friendly club where new members are very welcome. We offer two or three walks per week, on Wednesday and Sunday and a Strollers Walk usually on a Thursday or Friday every two or three weeks. We always end our Sunday walks at a coffee shop or car boot afternoon tea. Wednesday walks start with coffee and are accessible by public transport. Our members generally live in inner and outer suburban Melbourne and our walks can be in the North, South, East or West, but usually within an hour or hour and half of the city. Every year we offer numerous weekday and weekend walking trips, coupling together two or three consecutive days of walking, and social activities.
