Join Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG) and Wiradyuri Traditional Owners Central West Aboriginal Corporation (WTOCWAC) for a Dhuluny Documentary Screening.

In 2024, The Dhuluny Project was a series of events commemorating the 200-year anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law on 14 August 1824 in the Bathurst region and the ensuing frontier violence. Dhuluny means the direct or gospel truth, and the commemoration offered visitors the opportunity to share and understand the true history of our Country and celebrate the resilience of the Wiradyuri Nation.

1 year on, and 201 years since the Declaration, we will take a look back on key moments from The Dhuluny Project and watch new documentary 'The Declaration', exploring the cultural and historical significance of several sites on Wiradyuri Country.

"Dhuluny: the war that never ended" (8 mins 27 seconds)

In 2024, BRAG presented major exhibition Dhuluny: the war that never ended, curated by Wiradyuri/Kamilaroi curator Jonathan Jones with Wirribee Aunty Leanna Carr.

The exhibition featured works by established and emerging Wiradyuri artists including Wirribee Aunty Leanna Carr; Michael Riley; HJ Wedge; Kevin Gilbert; Lorraine Connelly-Northey; Lucy Williams-Connelly; Karla Dickens; Jazz Money; Jamie-Lea Trindall; and Bria McCarthy. The exhibition responded to Martial Law, truth-telling about the Frontier Wars, and the ongoing national significance of the local events of Bathurst.

"The Declaration" (35 mins)

A documentary looking at several sites of cultural and historical significance on Wiradyuri Country. Senior Elder Dinawan Dyirribang Uncle Bill Allen describes the cultural importance and ongoing connection as well as the effects of colonisation on these important sites.

Over three days, you'll discover how to pronounce Wiradyuri sounds, words, and phrases,
Workshops are being facilitated by Aunty Joylene Simpson and Aunty Leanna Carr assisted by Jonathon Jones.

Each workshop is one hour long and runs for three consecutive days: August 12th, 13th, and 14th. Please plan to attend all three sessions, as new content will be covered each day.
