Es una festividad peruana que se realiza el 31 de octubre de cada año. Fue establecida el 18 de octubre de 1944 por el presidente de la República, Don Manuel Prado Ugarteche, mediante resolución suprema.

Es un reconocimiento político surgido como una reacción al movimiento indigenista de la época, la prédica mariateguista y la enorme migración de pobladores de los Andes a la capital.

Se celebra cada 31 de octubre para rendir homenaje a todos los exponentes de la música criolla. Esta fecha es ocasión propicia para tocar y bailar al son marineras, festejos, tonderos, polcas y valses.
