Diabetes New Zealand: Silver Lining
Description
We welcome you to a special event on World Diabetes Day!
Silver Lining is a powerful 15-minute documentary by Auckland filmmaker Harriett Maire, exploring her personal experience of living with type 1 diabetes.
As she approaches 25 years with the condition, Harriett reflects on the challenges, mental load, grief, and gratitude that come with managing a lifelong illness.
The film combines candid moments from her daily life with interviews featuring family members and other New Zealanders living with type 1 diabetes, including local Auckland youth.
Filmed by her father, cinematographer Renaud Maire NZCS, and featuring an intimate interview with her mother, Silver Lining is a moving and deeply personal story about resilience, family, and life with diabetes.
The documentary will be screened as part of a special Diabetes New Zealand event, followed by annual award presentations and light refreshments.
Please note the following:
Cinema food/drink, including a bar and coffee, may be purchased pre-screening and carried through. But please, there is a strict no 'outside food' to be brought into the cinema, or we will incur a hefty cleaning fee. Please be considerate of the venue.
We have the cafe area reserved post-screening including nibbles, whilst mingling, and taking photos if you wish. The cinema foyer is open to the public.
Due to its thoughtful and emotional subject matter, the short film is primarily aimed at teenagers and adults, although families with younger children are welcome to attend.
The documentary will start promptly at 3 pm. Please arrive from 2:30 pm to avoid missing the screening. Traffic and parking may be more difficult on a weekend, so please leave plenty of time.
Parking is by the cinema (subject to space), on streets, by the beach and at the mall.
Please remember to bring any diabetes management supplies you may need.
Tickets are inclusive of GST and booking fees and are subsidised to make attendance more accessible. However, if able, donations are always appreciated to support the Live Brave Mana Ora program for youth living with type 1 diabetes.
(If this is still out of reach, and you would love to attend, please contact in confidence).
