Diabetes NZ Auckland Youth: Living Every Day Brave Summer Camp 2027
Description
Living Every Day Brave Summer Camp 2027
We are heading into summer fast, so it won't be long until we welcome tamariki/children to an exciting summer camp!
Camp: Is a 4-day, 3-night immersive experience at a stunning beachside location filled with fun activities, personal development and learning. Camp blends adventure with education, helping children grow their confidence in managing diabetes, supported by inspiring Youth Leaders and a dedicated medical team led by the Starship Children’s Hospital. It's a chance to build friendships, challenge themselves, and enjoy a supportive community.
For children: This is a special opportunity to make connections and friendships with others going through the same diabetes journey. Children get an insight, stepping away from 24/7 parental care, to build their confidence and personal responsibility around diabetes care, with support from peers, youth leaders and the medical team. Camp also helps to build a more positive outlook on diabetes.
For parents/carers: Carers will benefit with respite from round-the-clock care, whilst your child is in a safe, supportive environment, learning and having fun!
Registration: Places are limited to 30 children aged 10-12yrs living with type 1 diabetes. Registration cut-off date is below. Registration does not automatically confirm camp selection. Starship diabetes nurse specialists require initial registrations to assess who will benefit from attending camp, especially if numbers are exceeded. If unsuccessful, the initial camp fee will be refunded.
Fees: The cost of camp is highly subsidised through local fundraising, grants, and extra donations, bringing the cost down to $490 per camper.
Upon registration, the first installment of $170 is due (ticket Part 1).
After acceptance, the balance of $320 is payable (ticket Part 2).
Carer Support: If eligible for 'Carer Support', $320 may be claimed back by families via the Ministry of Health at the end of camp. However, you must contact your diabetes team earlier to organise a 'Carer Support Application Form' if you do not have a current 'Carer Support Claim Form' or it expires by the camp date.
Financial support: Although the camp fee is less than half the actual cost, we acknowledge it may still be prohibitive for some, and do not want any child to miss out due to financial barriers. Therefore, please contact shantelle@diabetes.org.nz to discuss financial support or payment options in confidence.
Donations: If your family is in the position to contribute further toward camp or sponsor a child to attend, donations can be made via the 'Donation' button on the ticketing page. Alternatively contact shantelle@diabetes.org.nz . A tax receipt can be provided. All donations will directly help this camp. Thank you!
Camp Info Session + Q&A: We are hosting an information session for parents/carers and children with a camp overview, diabetes management and to answer any questions. If you or your child a little unsure about camp this is the perfect opportunity to learn more.
