Diabetes NZ Auckland Youth: Teens Timeout Bowling
Event description
Come hangout with other teens that also have diabetes, for a fun afternoon bowling. Have some munchies like pizza (where everyone has to do sugar checking and insulin - youth leaders too). Youth leaders will be running this event. We have booked all four lanes for this event (space for 32 teens) so it will be just us!
What: Tenpin bowling and munchies
Who: Diabetes NZ Auckland Youth. Teens 13-19yrs (T1 & T2 welcome)
When: Saturday June 17th 2pm (finish time approx. 4pm)
Where: Live Wire Sylvia Park, 286 Mount Wellington Highway, Mount Wellington, Auckland
Cost: $20 (+GST)
Parents: Please let your teen know they are responsible for managing their diabetes, and insulin for the snacks (there will be a mix of pizza, chips and fruit/veg sticks etc). This is a good opportunity for them to manage themselves positively amongst others needing to do the same. Teens will be split into 4 groups of 8 across the 4 bowling lanes, with each group having a youth leader. There will also be another couple of older youth leaders minding the whole event and any diabetes needs if they arise.
A special mention to Lachlan Nicoll for raising $850 by doing a sausage sizzle at his school Westlake Boys. We decided on putting it towards a teen event for his age group of peers. This money has allowed the cost of this event for each teen to be less than half what it would have been otherwise.
Please note: there will not be a teen camp in 2023, as there was the mini teen camp in October 2022 which was within our financial year 2023. The next camp will still be the following financial year 2024, but not until April 2024. (It was the earlier FY22 camp that was missed due to Auckland lockdowns). Therefore, we have tried to get this teen event into action (plus hopefully another later in the year), so encourage your teens to come along. The youth leaders are a lot of fun in supporting the teens.
