Event description

'Diabetes Update and Prediabetes Call to Action'

Join us ahead of National Diabetes Week 2025 for 'Diabetes Update and Prediabetes Call to Action - a hybrid event hosted by the Sydney Health Partners Diabetes and Obesity Clinical Academic Group (DO-CAG). This event welcomes both healthcare professionals and community members, providing a valuable opportunity to engage with experts and peers.

The key message of this event is clear: "Are you at risk of developing diabetes? Early detection is critical - if diagnosed, take action now to prevent diabetes."

Why It Matters:

  • Prediabetes affects 1 in 6 people and, if untreated, can lead to type 2 diabetes and other health complications.

  • Annual screening for type 2 diabetes is recommended for high-risk groups, including those with a family history of diabetes, obesity, aged over 40, certain high-risk ethnicities and those who are less active.

What You Can Do If Diagnosed:

  • Healthy Eating – Follow the Australian Dietary Guidelines by choosing whole, unprocessed foods and reducing sugar, saturated fats, and salt.

  • Stay Active – Aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day.

  • Weight Loss – Losing just 2kg can lower your diabetes risk by 30%.

  • Monitor Your Health – Regular check-ups and screenings are key to managing your health.

  • Join the NSW 'Get Healthy' Service at Home » Get Healthy NSW

  • Join the 2kg Challenge – A free 8-week program from Western Sydney Diabetes, designed to support you in building healthier habits through simple lifestyle changes.

Learn, Connect, and Collaborate

This event will also spotlight recent research and discuss the ongoing challenges of prediabetes, diabetes, and obesity in the healthcare system. Discover new prevention strategies, improved access to care, and meaningful health outcomes for those living with these conditions.
