Diagonal Weaving Workshop with Zimmi Forest
Event description
* Unfortunately Zimmi has asked us to CANCEL this event due to family-related issues.*
Spend the morning learning diagonal weaving with environmental artist and maker Zimmi Forest on a rural property in Milton.
This beautifully rhythmical woven basket is created using the Dracena Draco leaf. Zimmi’s clear, step-by-step guidance will simplify this respected ancestral technique so that you will walk away with a stunning basket.
With over 25 years experience of making, exhibiting and teaching basketry and fibre art, Zimmi has a wealth of knowledge on Australian natural fibre basketry.
Her teaching techniques are flexible and broad, speaking to each student's individual way of learning. Zimmi will break down each stage of the making process so that students can work methodological or experimentally through the basket.
Zimmi will also share her knowledge of the history of Australian basketry, terminology and ethics.
All materials and equipment will be supplied… what you will learn will allow you to go out and forage for yourselves from very easy-to-find materials.
Enjoy morning tea prepared with care using fresh local produce, hot and cold bevvies. Leave with your creativity reignited, new connections and a sustainable art practice.
