Event description

How do you live ethically in the world as a member of the diaspora? How do you tell your stories? Diaspora Dialogues is an evening of vital conversations that brings together speakers from diverse communities to explore challenging topics reflecting the complexities of diasporic identity in Australia.

From colonisation to colourism and queerness, this event creates a space to listen, reflect, and find common ground across cultural, social, and political divides. Through open dialogue, Diaspora Dialogues seeks to deepen our understanding of what it means to belong, to navigate hybrid identities, and to build community in a multicultural city. Drawing on the Indonesian concept of 'nongkrong,' we explore how sharing food, ideas, and open conversation can weave our experiences into a shared fabric.

This event is particularly designed for members of diasporic communities and their allies. As we will be covering important yet sensitive topics, we ask all attendees to approach the evening with respect, care, and consideration for one another's experiences.

The ticket includes some snacks and tea. You can also pre-purchase an optional dinner from D'Penyetz in Carlton for $16 to enjoy for the chat after.
