Difficult Conversations

Event description

Avoiding the conversations we find challenging can make the situation worse. At best, it increases tension and leads to conflict. It can even cause trauma for both parties and beyond in the atmosphere it creates, being unspoken. All this from a fear of upset. Understandable but misguided, and often with significant unintended consequences.

Becoming skilled at having and preventing difficult conversations can go a long way in helping us work smarter, not harder and reduce the tensions and avoidance. This work is based on a relational approach to leadership at every level. Confidence in having difficult conversations is a meta skill that fosters inclusive leadership.

Some of the key areas this workshop explores include:

  • Learn tools to reframe conversations for a positive outcome.

  • Overcome fears of discomfort, awkwardness, and risks of damaging relationships.

  • Creating safety for difficult conversations through consent.

  • Utilising avoidance as a motivator to be proactive.

This workshop focuses on a work environment where difficult conversations are recognised as valuable and may not be practised or part of the workplace culture. It supports people in professional environments to gain confidence and skill in preventing and, as appropriate, engaging in difficult conversations to address what we've been avoiding and promote healthy workplace relations.

Who should attend:

For anyone leading or working with others, whether in organisations or independently. These workshops are for people in environments where these skills are valued and who want the chance to develop them. They offer support to build confidence and capability in meta-skills that reinforce and build on one another.

What to expect:

  • This session is a two-hour interactive online workshop.

  • Slides are used to share content visually.

  • Slides will be shared in PDF form after each session.

  • Breakout rooms are used to encourage light-hearted practice of the skills

  • There will be a break in the middle.

  • Certificates of participation are available upon request.

  • Although aimed at developing workplace skills, the benefits are transferable to other areas of life.

This session is part of a series and can be taken individually. See Host Page or below for other workshops and Packages.
