Event description

An introductory workshop for understanding and using digital engagement tools in the museum, gallery and collections sector.

Presented by Ortelia Interactive, in partnership with Wezit France, and Museums & Galleries of NSW.

Digital tools and technologies offer a broad range of opportunities for audience and community engagement through the creation of interactive story-telling, immersive environments and broader transmedia experiences.

This workshop will provide a high-level overview of various digital engagement tools and technologies available for use by sector professionals today. Participants will focus on ways to manage and better understand digital projects, in order to maximise audience engagement outcomes. They will acquire a greater understanding of the processes and resources required, grasping not only the possibilities offered by digital technologies, but also associated budgeting and resource requirements. Dedicated web-based publication platforms, 3D interactive technologies, allied tools and specialised skill sets, will be discussed and introduced.

The workshop will begin with a round-table discussion about challenges faced in the digital era, and this will be followed by several exercises ranging from planning a digital project to implementation. Participants will be able to experience hands-on, some of the technologies available  including a VR headset, mobile VR, Web publishing platforms and examples of interactive web/mobile-based audience engagement. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions and discuss project specific ideas with industry experts. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be better prepared to choose the right tool, application or partner for a specific digital project aimed at effective and targeted audience engagement.

Lunch and refreshments are included in the registration cost. Please advise dietary requirements at time of booking.
