Dinners with a Difference is a facilitated discussion over a meal that dips beneath the surface of everyday conversations.

Come solo or bring a friend that you'd like to get to know better.

This month’s theme is ACTIVISM.

We're diving into the transformative world of activism, exploring its dynamic evolution, and celebrating the power of movements that have shaped our lives and engage in thoughtful reflection on where we're headed next.

At this vibrant gathering, we'll engage in discussions that illuminate the nature of activism. From pleasure activism, which places joy and self-care at the heart of social change, to the resilient spirit of queer activism and the importance of nature activism and movements like Black Lives Matter and Me Too. We'll discuss how these movements have pushed boundaries, shattered stereotypes and explore the diverse avenues through which activism manifests in our lives. We may reflect on the monumental milestones that have propelled social justice movements forward, and discuss how technology, social media, and grassroots organising have redefined the ways we can drive change into the future. With guided facilitation, the discussion is led by the participants, so the conversation can evolve according to the unique combination of people at your table.

We will celebrate and explore the intersectionality that matter to you within activism. We'll explore the ways in which diverse voices and causes have intertwined to create powerful alliances, fostering a more inclusive and equitable future for all.

Whether you're a seasoned activist or someone who's curious to learn, this will likely be an enriching experience that hopefully leaves you inspired and motivated to be a force for positive change.

Your ticket includes a selection of entrees and mains, with dietary needs thoughtfully catered for. Drinks will be available for purchase on the night. To enrich the conversation, a questionnaire will be emailed to attendees the week before the event, which we ask that you complete before attending. You answers will be used to shape the questions and guide the conversation. The more you give, the more we'll get out of night.

With the entire restaurant exclusively reserved for our gathering, we'll have the freedom to express ourself authentically and engage in vibrant dialogue without hesitation.

Join us as we gather to celebrate the past, embrace the present, and envision the future of activism. Your participation fuels the momentum for change.

Don't miss this unique chance to delve into meaningful reflection and discussions that transcend the everyday small talk.

Feedback from previous participants

"Everything was incredible! A truly great concept and execution of an event!"

"Gretel! You truly have a gift. The way you model courage in a really authentic way helps everyone in the room to be brave and also show up authentically. You are also really funny! I loved listening to you speak - it was entertaining and reassuring."

"A rare opportunity to connect with warmth & curiosity without risk"

"Chatting with random strangers was really fun."

"As a young Aussie guy, most of the conversations I have are surface level, sports-based, or just entirely sledging, which I love, but I don't really have the opportunity to philosophically explore topics or share meaningful (and related) anecdotes in a respectful forum where I could be challenged, encouraged and introspective, just for the sake of good conversation.
Finding good chats as an adult gets harder and harder, but this took me back to being freshly 18 and enjoying that good old Aussie tradition of a drunk 'DnM' (Deep and Meaningful). Happy to be philosophical and vulnerable - cracked open emotionally and intellectually - only now a little less drunk and much more comfortable."

"The dinner was warm, connecting, and very enjoyable. A place to share food and connect on a meaningful topic and experience a lovely diversity of knowledge and opinions."

"It’s a chance to share a meal and the kinds of conversations you’d have with close friends during uni days when we had the time on our hands that led to long, meandering, meaningful discussions. In the midst of adulting, when conversations can often either be surface-level or we just don’t have time to go much deeper, this format gave us a really well facilitated forum in which to dive-deep and build friendships and new connections in a unique way that went way beyond ‘so….what do you do for work?’ that so often characterises new interactions."
