DIRECTING

10am - 3pm Sunday 16 November

$100 for the one day masterclass

*additional sessions to direct the 301 public showing

Have you ever wondered what it really takes to step into the director’s chair?

Mill Theatre presents a One-Day Masterclass in Directing for Theatre, an intensive and practical introduction to the craft of directing. Across a full day of hands-on exercises, you’ll explore the principles of working with actors, running the room, and shaping rehearsal processes to achieve compelling performances. With a balance of discussion and practice, participants will develop a toolkit for understanding text, communicating vision, and leading a creative team. No preparation is required - just a willingness to step into the role of director and engage fully.

For those who want to take their learning further, there is the option to join the 301 Acting course, where you can put ideas into practice by directing scenes and monologues. Individual rehearsal times will be scheduled, and this work will lead into a public showing in December, giving participants the opportunity to test their directorial voice in front of an audience.

Additional Directing Sessions
$150 for the 4 week additional sessions

Participants can also book and pay for the additional directing block, where they’ll be paired with the 301 acting students to put all the workshop ideas into practice. This extension runs for four weeks, with the final week culminating in a public performance. Not all directors will be called each week, as a rehearsal schedule will be created, and throughout the process Lexi will guide both actors and directors as they test and refine the work discussed in the masterclass.

LOCATION

The Mill Theatre is in Building 3.3, the Screencraft and KeepCo building which is a short walk from Capital Brewing. There are two easy ways to approach the Theatre:

PARK in P3 at the back of the precinct. From there you will see building 3.3 which has a large Screencraft sign. The public entrance is just up from that sign (not underneath it!). Once inside, walk about 5 metres and the theatre is to the right, next to Mojo Guitars.

WALK from Capital Brewing or the Less sculpture into the KeepCo building, pass Ramen Daddy and at the end of the corridor we are on the left.

PARKING

All parking in the precinct is free with several accessible parking spots in all the parking locations. The best spot to park is P3 at the back of the precinct. If you park elsewhere please be warned that signage and way-finding around the precinct is extremely difficult. Arrive in plenty of time to possibly get lost, possibly be in a bad mood!
