A serious response to a dark comedy

How do we, as a society, support disabled people? Why do we have a benefits system and what can we do to make it better? Is it just about money?

As Chris says in the play - "We’re not a problem. We’re a … a valuable resource.”

“Don’t. Make. Tea.” is a dark comedy written by Rob Drummond. With this as a provocation, BOP Theatre Company invites you to join the debate.

With the support of Graeae Theatre Company, CRIPtic Arts, Tourettes Hero, Disability Benefits Consortium and Disabled People Against Cuts, BOP Theatre Company is hosting an event to ask big questions that have no simple answers. With key provocations from Jess Thom and Ellen Clifford of Disabled People Against Cuts, we will hold space for an afternoon of discussion, allegiance building and action planning. The near future. Chris never wanted to end up here. She’s a proud woman and hates asking for help but when her condition deteriorated she had no choice but to claim benefits.

Ralph believes in the new system. He knows it can work for Chris. He’s here today, in her home, to assess her. To prove to her that there has been no mistake – she is fit and capable of working. Can Chris persuade him to change his mind? And, if not, how far is she willing to go to save herself?
