Disability Law - Know Your Rights
Event description
What: Auckland Disability Law are coming to Waitaha (Canterbury) to present 3 free sessions on your legal rights in education, decision making and employment.
You are invited to attend one or more of these.
When & where: Friday 18 October 2024, BrainTree Wellness Centre, 70 Langdon’s Road, Papanui, Christchurch.
Session 1 - 9.30 to 11am - Advocating for Your Child’s Rights in Education
Suitable for parents/whānau - your rights under the Education Act and advocacy strategies.
Session 2 -11.15am to 12.45pm - Supported decision making and the Protection of Personal and Property Rights (PPPR) Act
Suitable for disabled people and also parents/whānau and other support people - supported decision making, enduring powers of attorney and orders under the PPPR Act.
Lunch from 12.45 to 1.15pm
Session 3 - 1.15pm to 2.45pm - Employment
Suitable for disabled people - knowing what can and cannot be asked in an interview, reasonable accommodations in the workplace, pay/leave entitlements and disability related dismissals.
Accessibility
The venue is fully accessible. There will be NZSL Interpreters present. There will be a selection of hot drinks and some finger food at midday including gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. If you have other accessibility requirements, please email admin@eglwaitaha.org
