    Event description

How does Jewish wisdom speak to present day Jewish community?

This is a divisive and difficult time within the Jewish community.  Debates about Israel, October 7th, the War in Gaza, Zionism, a future Palestinian state, Jewish identity and community have led to  acrimony and anger.  In this two part exploration of Jewish wisdom we will look at the idea of machloket - disagreement and conflict - in the Jewish tradition to find resources that speak to contemporary Jewish life. We will also explore the idea of community, what it means to live in community, and what it takes to preserve - or deny - communal bonds. If you're interested in learning Jewish wisdom, delving into Jewish texts, conversations about Jewish values - this is the gathering for you.

This is not a class about events in Israel or the war in Gaza and you will be disappointed if you are seeking a space for such discussion. This two part class is about the idea of division within the Jewish community.

We will have some food and drink to enjoy together. Please join us!
