Disaster Conversations Broome Community Screening
Event description
In early 2023, massive rain events struck two communities simultaneously, in Vila Sahy on the south coast of Brazil where 65 people lost their lives in landslides and floods, the other in the Fitzroy Valley, Western Australia when Ex-tropical Cyclone Ellie caused the Martuwarra/Fitzroy River to reach the highest recorded flood level, inundating communities and causing widespread damage.
'Disaster Conversations' unites climate disaster survivors in Brazil and Australia, featuring online conversations between survivors in both countries who discuss the impacts on their communities, the local community recovery efforts and the urgent need for real action on climate change.
