Did you know that between 50-87% of people affected by family violence don't end up reporting to the police? Instead, they tell the important people in their lives, their friends, whānau, and local social service providers. Telling someone you have been harmed is called a disclosure. To aid people who are disclosing family violence or sexual harm, Women's Support Motueka created a series of workshops aimed at those who are likely to receive a disclosure of harm. These workshops mainly focus on disclosures from adults but are a great starting point with foundational knowledge for specific training on receiving disclosures from children and young people (other organisations provide this training).

We want you to get the most out of these workshops, so they are split over three days to allow for reflection. The workshops are designed to be used as professional development and therefore, have a charge of $100 per person (no booking fee, GST included). The $100 ticket includes: 1) Nine hours of education spread over three days (Wednesdays - 8th,15th, and 22nd May 2024 from 9 am - 12 pm). 2) A comprehensive workbook designed with ease of use in mind, with a 'go-to' page to use during a disclosure, so all the information you need is right in front of you. The workbook can also be used as a refresher, so there is no need to complete the course more than once. 3) Additionally, we practice our manaakitanga by supplying a generous spread of healthy kai and tea/coffee to fuel your ability to learn and connect with other kaimahi from service providers in the region (please state any specific dietary needs when registering, and we will try our best to accommodate you). 4) A digital certificate of completion as proof of 9 hours of professional development.

Our workshops are trauma-focused, with detailed information about the different trauma responses and how to handle disclosures with care while keeping yourself and the person disclosing safe. You will learn about the many different types of family and sexual violence and how to recognise signs of trauma. You will gain a deeper understanding of the barriers people face, such as sexism, racism, ableism, homophobia and transphobia and how we can combat them. You will practice the skills to safely refer people for further support and how to find support for yourself as well. Open to anyone who would like to join (not just social service kaimahi). Great for those working in a customer-facing role or friends and whānau of those affected by family violence.

Come along and learn how to make Motueka a safe place for people to disclose. You need to be able to attend all three dates as each workshop covers different content (9-12 Wednesdays 8th,15th, and 22nd May), however, if you cannot attend one of the dates we have a contingency plan and you will not miss any content.
