    Event description

    Discover the Wetlands!

Explore some of Inverloch's wetlands where you'll find coastal scrub, open woodlands, birds, frogs and freshwater invertebrates.

    About this event

The wetlands form a transition zone between river and ocean environments.  Sometimes flooded and sometimes almost dry, they are challenging environments for both plants and animals.  At the same time they can be some of the most productive natural habitats in the world.

The wetlands at RACV Inverloch are an ideal location to study the ecosystems and inhabitants of the local area, a significant site for birds, frogs, fish breeding and potentially endangered species such as the orange bellied parrot.

    In this activity you will

    • Compare the variety of ecosystems in the wetlands
    • Identify and examine some of the distinct plants and animals found within these ecosystems
    • Identify and describe relationships between organisms and their surroundings
    • Identify and draw simple food chains/food webs that exist in the wetlands
    • Observe the behaviour of animals and birds in the area
    • Identify the effects of flooding and drought and climatic changes on the area
    • Identify the effect of human activity on these ecosystems
