Discovering My World: Four Strands to Understanding
Description
This session introduces the updated My World curriculum and explores how learners with SEND can develop a meaningful understanding of the people, places, communities and experiences that shape their lives. The session examines the four curriculum strands: Places & Spaces, Culture & Community, People & Roles, and Time & Change, and how these provide the foundations for developing cultural literacy, community awareness, preparation for adulthood and a sense of belonging.
Participants will explore practical, multi-sensory and communication-rich approaches that make abstract concepts such as time, change and the wider world accessible to all learners. Through discussion, reflection and planning activities, staff will develop confidence in using visual supports, real-life experiences and purposeful curriculum opportunities to help pupils better understand themselves and the world around them.
This module has been accredited by the NCFE and can be considered when working towards the NCFE Award. Participants are required to complete five modules, including the mandatory module.
