Discovering New Planets - Are We Alone?
Event description
Planets are everywhere. But could any of them support life?
In this talk, our Astrophysicists in Residence, Dr Ben Montet and Margo Thornton, will explain how we find planets around distant stars. They’ll share the types of worlds we've discovered so far and what it might take to detect signs of life beyond Earth.
We’ll go behind the scenes to see how scientists explore the Universe. You’ll learn what these discoveries reveal about how planets form and which ones might be habitable. We’ll also look at the chances of finding evidence of life outside our Solar System.
After the talk, there will be an extended Q&A session. It’s your chance to ask questions and learn more about other worlds.
This event is generously supported by the Emanuel School Foundation.
