KALI is an experimental dance performance that captures the visceral and deeply challenging process of emotional awakening. The work is developed as a negotiation between the female protagonist and her idolised self – a Hindu deity that represents the strength and power of an untamed nature. Thwarted by societal expectations, the woman seeks transformation through the meditative and martial arts practice of Kalari.

The work is performed by the Artistic Director of Finsart Inc. Fiona Gardner through an inventive fusion of movements from western contemporary dance and the traditional Indian martial art form of Kalaripayattu (Kalari).
