Join the Doctors in Secondary Schools Clinical Training Program's Breakfast Club.

Each fortnight throughout Term 3, join us alongside a specialist as we discuss common issues presenting in young people. These sessions are designed for clinicians, nurses and educators.

Tools for Schools and Families: Recommending reasonable adjustments for young people in the school and home environments with Dr Bill Garvey
  • Describe the role of social prescribing for families, and reasonable adjustments in schools, for students with learning difficulties, disorders, ASD and ADHD, and behavioural concerns 
  • Discuss the role of school-based service providers in advocating for individuals and working with school communities. 
  • Discuss common school strategies and family options that are accessible for young people and easy to recommend in practice 
  • Differentiate those in whom higher level adjustment or support is required and pathways to engage this support 
  • Participate in a community of practice and peer learning 
Wednesday 14 August 7.30am-8.30amNot just a 'picky eater': Neurodivergence and feeding difficulties, disordered eating and eating disorders with Hilary Smith

  • Describe the differences between feeding difficulties, disordered eating and eating disorders, and the relationship with neurodiversity
  • Discuss tools and strategies for identifying and managing eating disorders in neurodivergent young people 
  • Describe the role of school-based health providers in working within an integrated community-based team for neurodivergent young people with disordered eating and eating disorders 
  • Participate in a community of practice and peer learning 
Wednesday 28 August 7.30am-8.30amDiSS BITS Part 3 with Desiree Smith and Stephanie Stewart


  • Discuss the role of brief interventions for YP with low to moderate mental ill-health in school-based health services
  • Examine a case plan for a young person working through the relevant Brief Intervention Toolkit module  (?Sleep, Nutrition, Physical Activity) 
  • Construct a practical approach to using the Orygen brief intervention toolkit modules through case-based discussion. 
  • Participate in a community of practice and peer learning. 
Wednesday 11 September 7.30am-8.30amRoundabouts and Workarounds: Creating easier roads for young people to navigate school-based health services with Dr Biacna Forrester and Dr Simone Craig

  • Describe the development of School based health services across different levels or domains of healthcare 
  • Explore systemic school barriers and enablers in the school setting  
  • Co-create solutions to common issues in practice 
  • Participate in a community of practice and peer learning.  


Topics and titles are subject to change. These series events have been approved in the RACGP 2023-2025 triennium as a 4-hour activity (Activity number TBC): 4 hours of Reviewing Performance.
