Distinguished Speaker Series with Dr Christine Ratnasingham (Class of 1996)

On World Day of Social Justice, engage in an insightful conversation with human rights advocate and Grammarian Dr Christine Ratnasingham. 

Dr Christine Ratnasingham works across various sectors to address human rights issues. Her particular areas of expertise include children’s rights, cultural diversity, inclusion, governance, human rights education, cultural reform, justice, race discrimination and refugee and asylum seeker issues. 

Christine commenced at Canberra Girls Grammar School in Year 5 and graduated from Year 12 in 1996. During her time at CGGS Christine was an active netballer, violin player and chorister, holding the roles of Orchestra Captain and Head Chorister.  

Christine continued her education in Canberra, then interstate studying Arts and Law at the Australian National University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Melbourne, and a Doctor of Juridical Science and Bachelor of Law (Honours) from the Australian National University, specialising in human rights law. 

Since that time, Christine worked in a range of roles at not-for-profit, government and philanthropy organisations, ranging from the multicultural broadcaster SBS, state and federal governments, a philanthropic foundation, the ACT Magistrates Court, the Defence Abuse Response Taskforce, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and the Australian Human Rights Commission. 

Christine is passionate about reading and creative writing, and has recently published her first collection of poetry, Soft Side of Red. She looks forward to returning to CGGS for World Day of Social Justice to share her wide range of experiences and insights, meet current students and reconnect with Alumni.
