Distorted Mirror by Janine Fuller
Event description
Distorted Mirror by Janine Fuller
Distorted Mirror is a deeply personal photo series by interdisciplinary artist Janine Fuller.
Using a portable document scanner, Janine pressed parts of her body against glass, creating raw, abstract images that reveal folds, scars, textures, and shadows in unfamiliar proportions.
Presented as large scale, floor-to-ceiling prints in LANTANA’s dimly lit exhibition space, the works invite slow looking and immersive reflection. The works are not traditional portraits, but honest impressions of the body as it is not often experienced, up close, in parts, and without filters.
“We’re taught to notice the flaws first. To see the soft folds, the textures, the evidence of living as imperfections. Meanwhile, the beauty — the strength, the warmth, the story — slips quietly into the background.”
Distorted Mirror is an invitation to pause, look closer, and reconsider how you view your own skin.

About the Artist
Janine Fuller is an interdisciplinary artist exploring themes of connection between body, place, and the more-than-human world. Her underwater photographs from K’gari, featured in Head On Photo Festival 2025, reflect the quiet intimacy of natural environments — an attention she brings inward in Distorted Mirror, showing this September at LANTANA Space, where she turns the lens on the textures and truths of the human form.

GENERAL INFO: LANTANA Space is an artist-run experimental arts space. We exist to make experimental arts practice visible and accessible. We centre process-driven studio practice and create inclusive opportunities for artists of all mediums and career stages to develop, test and share new work. Home to artist studios, exhibitions, events and community, LANTANA is both a working space and a meeting place. Our flexible studios are designed for real practice, and our exhibition space supports solo and group shows, public programs and cross-disciplinary projects. Founded in 2021, we are located on Kabi Kabi / Gubbi Gubbi Country in Moffat Beach.
DONATIONS: We’re a one of a kind space in the region, a DIY space that's artist funded and run. Your support helps us provide space and opportunities for independent artists to create and share their work, representing the diverse arts ecology of the Sunshine Coast from the coast to the hinterland. All donations go directly towards programming, covering essentials like the ol’ power bill, and expanding opportunities for artists to create new experiences for our community… for you! We deeply appreciate any contributions. If you’d like to find out more about how to get involved, please reach out.
ACCESS to LANTANA Space: The main entrance has a 20cm step and is not fully wheelchair accessible, however access can be provided via the side roller door. There is one bathroom, with entry through a standard width door. Please let us know when booking if you have any mobility requirements. For access enquiries, contact us at contact@lantanaspace.com
