Please arrive at 8:30am for registration and networking. The workshop will commence promptly at 9:00am.

DiTP is designed for junior doctors, international medical graduates and trainees working in hospital and community settings.

This workshop aims to reinforce the basic understanding of the physiology of acid base disturbance.  The complexities of the various blood gas parameters will be distilled down to a logical step wise approach.  Learning will be enhanced by a series of case studies, where there will be opportunities to apply the learned concepts.


The facilitator: Dr Herman Chua, Emergency Medicine Consultant, Modbury/Gawler

Herman is a Senior Specialist in Emergency Medicine with over 20 years of clinical experience. He has been extensively involved in the education of junior doctors and trainees, having conducted workshops at local and national conferences and holding positions such as Director of Training and Examiner for ACEM.

The Program:

  • Blood Gas Interpretation 
  • Describe and calculate compensation for metabolic and respiratory disorders
  • Identify mixed base disorders
  • Case Studies: (Part 1)

Morning Tea Break- 30 mins 

  • Correlate Blood gas interpretation to the clinical context 
  • Understand basic electrolyte disorders involving sodium and potassium
  • Case Studies: (Part 2)

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop a stepwise approach to blood gas interpretation 
  • Describe and calculate compensation for metabolic and respiratory disorders 
  • Identify mixed acid-base disorders 
  • Correlate blood gas interpretation to the clinical context 
  • Understand basic electrolyte disorders involving sodium and potassium

Tickets:

The cost for this workshop is $100. A tax invoice will be provided to claim reimbursement from your SA Health PD funds or tax return.

A networking morning tea is provided.
