DiTP Venous Access Workshop

Please arrive at 8:30am for registration and networking. The workshop will commence promptly at 9:00am.

DiTP is designed for junior doctors, international medical graduates and trainees.

This hands-on workshop explores the underpinning theory and techniques of venous access and cannulation, including ultrasound-guided peripheral venous cannulation. From here, participants will practise their skills on simulated training arms and using the ultrasound machine.

A pre-learning pack will be provided covering foundational knowledge on the venous system, vein selection, device selection, and best practice for venous access and cannulation. This theory will be reviewed at the start of the workshop before participants breakup into groups for the practical skills training.

Due to the small group practical training, this workshop is strictly limited to 21 participants only. 

A networking morning tea is provided.

The facilitator: Dr Angela Travis, Rural Generalist specialising in Emergency Medicine and Anaesthetics

Dr Angela Travis is a Rural Generalist specialising in Emergency Medicine and Anaesthetics and currently works in the Adelaide Hills and on Kangaroo Island. Angela holds fellowships with both ACRRM and RACGP. During training, Angela completed the Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice in Anaesthetics and has been working as a Rural Generalist Anaesthetist for 13 years. More recently she completed The Advanced Diploma in Emergency Medicine through ACEM, and is currently the Emergency Medicine Advisor for the Rural Generalist Program of South Australia.

Angela works as a RERN doctor (Rural Emergency Responders Network), often going to scenes of accidents to assist Ambulance Officers / Paramedics with medical support. Angela is also currently a Deputy Chief Medical Officer for the South Australian Ambulance Service, providing support and advice for Ambulance Personnel in the field. In addition to this, Angela enjoys teaching medical students, nurses, paramedics and doctors, working as a facilitator for LearnEM as well as a Clinical Senior Lecturer for The University of Adelaide Medical School.

Angela is a strong advocate of Rural Generalism and is keen to help promote opportunities for Trainees in Rural Medicine, Anaesthetics and Emergency Medicine.
