Washing Machine to DIY Worm Farm and Grass Tumbler

Keen to grow veges cheaply and boost your soil health? Rats chewing holes in your worm farm? Learn how to make your own free garden fertiliser (and garden statement piece).
Join Compost Collective facilitator/artist Adam Ben-Dror and artist Xin Cheng this Plastic Free July, and ask the question 'WHAT COULD A BROKEN WASHING MACHINE BECOME?'. This will be a fun and interactive workshop where broken washing machines are transformed and upcycled into a 'Rodent-Resistant Wormfarm' and 'Carbon Creator' Grass Clipping Drier.
Highlights:
- Vermicast is a highly valued soil addition growing healthy plants - and a great use of food scraps, if you would like to make use of them for your own garden.
- Carbon is an essential addition to compost or vermicast - and an awesome use for grass clippings.
- Take home tips and tricks for successful worm farming, and learn how to build your own entirely plastic-free system.
- The 'Rodent Resistant Worm Farm' and 'Carbon Creator' will be trialled in EcoMatters' New Lynn Organic Teaching Garden.
- The remaining parts will go on to find life in our next creative workshop with Adam and Xin.

ABOUT
Xin Cheng and Adam Ben-Dror are both keen gardeners, composters and worm farmers. In 2020 they made two films on inter-species kinship within Te Whanganui-a-tara (Wellington) and Te Awa Kairangi (Lower Hutt) looking at Common Unity Project Aotearoa and Manawa Karioi.
They are passionate about resourceful making, joyful playing, inquisitive thinking and resourceful living in an interconnected world. Together they run Local Making (www.localmaking.org). A design studio, project space, online publishing platform and neighbourhood-scaled laboratory for living and making.
